Translated from Dhivehi, meaning “big feast,” maahefun is a communal activity where families, friends, even colleagues and schoolmates meet up to enjoy a meal together before the month-long fasting of Ramadan begins.
Irushadhiyya School students celebrated their traditional Maahefun for the year 1445 on March 7th 2024.Traditional maahefun food includes a variety of sweet and savoury snacks, made from local ingredients such as coconut, banana, dhiyaa hakuru (Maldivian coconut honey), rihaakuru (Maldivian fish paste) and valhomas (smoked fish).
Grateful to our class teachers for organizing this traditional Ramadan preparation event!
The month of Ramadan is a month of self-reflection, meditation, and compassion, and a month of holy worship for muslims. The month is also considered a festival of feasts, with muslims across the globe welcoming people of other faiths to celebrate the lively occasion.
A Ramadan tradition that is unique to the Maldives, however, is Maahefun - it’s not really a tradition carried out regularly in any of the other muslim nations in the world, nor does it have any religious connotations. What started out as a way to have a last meal before beginning fasting during Ramadan has now evolved into a celebration of food, sharing, and togetherness - a well-loved and anticipated annual gathering of friends, families, and loved ones.
Big thanks to Ms. Shama, our PTA VP, for th lovely Maahfun feast! Getting us ready for Ramadan in style. Great food, great company. Ramadan vibes are stong!

Setting Sail Towards Lifelong Well-Being: The 30-Minute Daily Activity Custom for Our Youth
In an era where screens often dominate the attention of our beloved children, it has become more vital than ever to prioritize physical activity for their holistic well-being. Wise sages in the world of health universally agree that dedicating a mere 30 minutes each day to physical exercise is the key to nurturing a generation of greater health and happiness. But it is not merely a matter of setting the timer and letting the young ones play; it is a collective effort that entails students, teachers, and parents working hand in hand to ensure that this daily commitment to physical fitness becomes an enduring tradition.
Why 30 Minutes?
You may ponder why health sages consistently recommend this specific duration of daily exercise for our precious young ones. The answer lies in the myriad of benefits it brings forth. Engaging in at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day aids our children in cultivating robust muscles and resilient bones, nurturing overall physical well-being, elevating cardiovascular health, and fostering a way of life steeped in vitality. Furthermore, it bestows upon them the gift of mental tranquility, nurturing a sense of accomplishment and enhancing self-esteem.
The Roles of Students, Teachers, and Parents
Motivating our cherished young ones to meet this daily activity goal necessitates a united front from students, teachers, and parents. Here is how each group can play a pivotal role:
1. Students: As the primary beneficiaries of physical activity, our young ones should be encouraged to actively participate in sports, outdoor games, or any form of exercise that brings them joy. Infusing the activity with fun and delight is the cornerstone of its sustainability.
2. Teachers: In the realm of education, teachers can seamlessly incorporate physical activity into the curriculum. Regular breaks for movement, physical education classes, and extracurricular sporting activities all contribute to fulfilling the 30-minute goal. Teachers can also serve as paragons of positive influence by maintaining an active lifestyle themselves.
3. Parents: Within the sacred confines of our homes, parents play an indomitable role in laying the foundation for a life steeped in well-being. They can craft opportunities for physical play, curtail screen time, and encourage family excursions that are imbued with physical activity. Moreover, parents can partake in activities with their young ones, making exercise a cherished family bonding experience.
The Lifelong Influence
The significance of the 30-minute daily activity guideline stretches far beyond the confines of childhood. By instilling this practice at an early age, we are setting the stage for a lifetime of optimal well-being. Children who are reared with a profound appreciation for physical activity are more inclined to carry these customs into adulthood, thereby diminishing the specter of various health afflictions such as obesity, heart ailments, and mental health tribulations.
In summation, the 30-minute daily activity prescription for our young ones is not a mere suggestion; it is a commitment to ensuring that our progeny commences life on the right path. It is a vow to nurture generations marked by robust health, greater joy, and enhanced vitality, with students, teachers, and parents working in concert to unlock the gateway to enduring well-being.
